KYLE STRAIT CROWNED KING OF RAMPAGE
SCOTLAND WINS BID TO HOST MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2007 Fort William in the Scottish highlands, has won its bid to host the Mountain Bike World Championships in September 2007, despite strong competition from Canada and Australia. The decision was announced Monday 27 September 2004 by the UCI (International Cycle Union), cycling's international governing body, in Bardolino, near Verona, Italy. For the mountain bike disciplines of Downhill, 4-Cross and Trials, The UCI Mountain Bike World Championships is the most important and prestigious international competition in the calendar. For Cross Country it is second only to the Olympics. The World Championships at Fort William will be the last major mountain bike cross country competition before the Bejing Olympics in 2008 and a key event for all riders and their national cycling federations. At the World Championships, an annual competition with the emphasis firmly on riding for country rather than for trade teams and sponsors, 700 plus competitors from more than 45 nations worldwide compete across the four mountain bike disciplines of Cross Country, Downhill, 4-Cross and Trials for a total of 14 World Championship titles. Frank McAveety, MSP, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, said: 'This is terrific news for the Highlands and for Scotland. Fort William has been so successful at hosting Mountain Bike World Cups in the past that the UCI would like to take advantage of the Nevis Range facilities again and host a full championship. I was in Fort William myself this year to see some of the best riders in the world race on Scotland's spectacular and challenging terrain. 'The Mountain Bike World Championships, which has been supported by the Executive through EventScotland, will draw thousands of enthusiasts from all over the globe to Scotland. The economic and tourism benefits to the area cannot be overestimated, and this event fits well with our aim of making Scotland a major events destination by 2015. 'Well done to everyone involved in the bidding process. The 2007 Mountain Bike World Championships will form part of a terrific series of events for the Highlands during Scotland's Year of Highland Culture.' The Nevis Range ski area and Leanachan Forest, Fort William, home of the World Championships in 2007, has successfully hosted rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 2002, 2003 and 2004, firmly establishing itself as one of the best competition venues in the world with a reputation for high standards, good organisation and excellent courses; and winning a number of top sporting and industry awards in the process. The profile, scale, complexity and importance of hosting the Mountain Bike World Championships is about four times that of a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series. With the recent announcement by the UCI that Fort William is to host the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Finals in September 2005, an extensive programme of mountain bike events leading up to the World Championships in 2007 is now guaranteed. At this key event of the mountain bike calendar, the last in the eight race series played out over six months, the 2005 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Champions of Downhill, Cross Country and 4-Cross, for elite men and women, will be crowned. Mike
Jardine from Rare Management, Organisers of the UCI Mountain Bike
World Cup events at Fort William and the driving force behind the
2007 World Championships bid said: 'This is fantastic recognition
of Fort William's success on the global stage and a real boost for
everyone who has worked so hard to make mountain biking in Fort William
such a special experience. Those who have been to the Fort William
World Cup know what a great weekend the Scottish Highlands can Fort
William is recognised by the UCI as a venue for mountain bike events
that consistently draws large, very supportive and enthusiastic crowds
from all over the UK and the rest of the world. It is anticipated
that the World Significant levels of international media coverage, including live terrestrial broadcast, are also expected at the event. At the World Championships in Lugano, Switzerland, in 2003, 379 print and broadcast media were accredited and more than 64 hours of television coverage of the competition was broadcast across 11 countries worldwide.
Micki Kozuschek, the President of Truvativ said: "Truvativ was at a crossroads to either make a complete drivetrain ourselves or team up with SRAM. I am excited that we now have a complete drivetrain and all the necessary human and financial resources to make it the best in the industry. Great products will be coming your way."
There will be no changes to Truvativ order processing or customer service for this model year. We will be linking order processing and customer service for SRAM and Truvativ for the 2006 model year. The specific changes will be will be announced at the Taipei show2005. The integration goals for the two companies include: 1. SRAM to support Truvativ's MY06 product introductions and sales efforts as led by Micki. 2. Centralize customer service and order processing by June 1, 2005. 3. Focus on product line coordination for MY07.
Austrian Roland Harrer wins High Jump and Best Trick category at Züri Fäscht For the seventh time, the Siemens mobile X Lake Jump was a spectacular event highlight. This time, visitors of Switzerland’s largest public festival, the famous Züri Fäscht, could watch some of the world’s best mountain bike and BMX stunt riders speed down the six meters tall ramp, shoot off a two meters steep kicker, climbing up to six meters high in the air, then pull off a range of unique and original tricks before plunging into Lake Zürich. On Friday, the twelve riders from around the world were battling to beat the current world record of 5.50 m set up by German Igor Obu at the last Siemens mobile X Lake Jump in Lugano. Despite unfavourable weather conditions with heavy rainfalls and strong winds, the competitors quickly approached the record mark and equalled it. Next the slat was moved up to 5.80 metres, a new world record mark which was jumped by two thirds of the field. And there was still plenty of space above the lath. So the hunt for a new world record continued. Finally, at 6.10 metres, two riders were left: Roland Harrer, a several time X Lake Jump winner from Austria and Frenchman Christopher Hatton, who participated at the Siemens mobile X Lake Jump for the first time. Pumped up by the audience, the speeded down the ramp pedalling as hard as they could, catapulted themselves over the kicker high into the air and flew over the slat not nearly touching it. The crowds screamed of excitement. Not only had they witnessed a new world record, but the winners had just beaten the old one by 60 centimetres. In the competition Best Trick on Saturday the competitors had to perform different stunts like rotations, inverted tricks (head down) or freestyle stunts (e.g. Superman Seat Grab) in three consecutive runs. The riders from France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, England and the USA were marked by a panel of expert judges including Frorider Tarek Rasouli (GER), the several time X Lake Jump participant and currently injured Cyril Cabiak (FRA) as well a street style and trial rider Mario Preining (AUT) on criteria such as difficulty, execution, and amplitude. They had a tough job as one highlight chased the other. Slow motions on a giant screen slowly repeated what was hard for the eye to believe: two and a half Back Flips, Back Flips 360, No Hand Front Flip, 720 rotations. Igor "The Fireball" Obu from Germany ignited stunning pyrotechnical effects on his bike and on his back before he dived as a “glowing fireball” into the water. With a Back Flip Tale Whip, a Back Flip 360 and a Double Back Flip 180, Austrian Roland Harrer received the highest scores from the jury (75.5) and won the Best Trick discipline followed by American Double Back Flip specialist John Jesme (69.2) and French Dirt Jumper Nicolas Duye (65.2), who also performed a stylish inverted tricks and a 360 flip. In addition to prize money and funky urban designer bags, all winners were awarded with the brand new Siemens M65 outdoor mobile phone with Bike-o-meter - the perfect phone for the daredevil world of the Siemens mobile X Lake Jump community.

The Siemens mobile X-Lake Jump in the Loch, which begins at 8pm on Friday 30 May, will see six BMX riders and six mountain bikers take turns to speed down a 7m ramp, shoot off a 3m high kicker, climbing up to 5m high in the air, then pull off a range of unique and original stunts before plunging into the deep of Loch Linnhe. The riders are marked on criteria such as funniest trick, highest jump, and best jam session. A panel of judges made up by mountain bikers will vote on who wins. 20.1.03: Twenty-seven of the world's foremost freeriders from nine countries have converged on Jindabyne, NSW, to take on a course significantly harder than the kilometre-long track that dropped 300 vertical metres from start to finish in 2002. This January, that course has been abandoned in favour of something harder: The new track is longer and more spectacular, and includes a 30-foot vertical drop, a 45-foot step down gap, rhythm jumps, wall rides and a sled saw ? a giant moving see-saw on rails that's never been seen before in mountain biking. The AUD$15,000 event is a two-day invitation-only competition that will showcase 27 of the world's best and most unhinged competitors and free riders. "Freeriding" is the process of mountain biking up, over and down difficult man-made and natural terrain. There's no stopwatch; 11 judges will base their scoring criteria on technique, control, fluidity and overall impression. There are also no "soft" options, as riders either take on a choice of difficult technical lines through a section, or ride around an obstacle completely (aka the "chicken" line). Normally sleepy Jindabyne is the gateway to the winter time ski fields of the Snowy Mountains. The town remains untouched by the bushfires in the region. Updates, pics and more are HERE
