Siemens Mobile X lake jump in Fort William

Judges: Cedric Gracia (France), Steve Peat (UK), Mario Preining (Austria)

The Siemens mobile X Lake Jump - Scotland’s first ever bicycle lake jump - took place on Friday, May 30th, on Lake Linnhe in Fort William, Scotland, with three MTB and BMX riders taking highest awards.

The event was part of the opening ceremony of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, the world’s most prestigious mountain bike race series in the world, with cyclists coming from all over the globe for the chance to compete.

The Lake Jump also celebrated the launch of Siemens latest mobile phone, the M55.

Three out of a dozen riders, five in BMX and six in MTB categories took the top prizes.
Roland Harrer from Austria, a past Siemens mobile X Lake Jump winner at the MTB Worlds 2002 in Zell am See, won the BMX category.
Timo Pritzel of Germany, a multi-time Siemens mobile X Lake Jump champ and world record holder, won best trick in the MTB category.
Guido Tschugg from Germany, who also participated in the 4X World Cup at Fort William on Saturday, won the high jump category, with a jump of 4.9 metres.

Event organiser Markus Jaisle from Siemens mobile Global Sponsoring declared: This was a tremendous event - one of the most exciting we’ve ever had. With over 5,000 people in attendance and world-class competitors, the X Lake Jump was an unqualified triumph. Even the fickle weather stayed on our side as the notorious Scottish rain failed to appear.”

Turning somersaults, doing double back flips, and performing cartwheels were part for the course as acrobatic cyclists launched into the air before hitting the 9°C cold, bracing loch waters. The riders were marked on criteria like best trick and highest jump. A panel of judges, made up of famous world cup riders Cedric Gracia and Steve Peat as well as lake jump specialist Mario Preining, voted on who won.
