The bike show
at the NEC this year produced some good BSX racing
with all the top pro's racing in the first round of
the MBUK Biker Cross series. Not much dirtjumping
going on, as the riders said the jumps weren't right.
Karl Hemsley came up short on the landing in practice
on Monday, snapping his forks. He walked away after
the medic's checked him out, with a cut on his face.
I didn't see anyone doing the jumps after that. Trials
had a good course and was good. BMX street was no
bigger, but there was some good riding. Especially
on the vert ramp. Always loads of retail stalls with
every decent bike shop within 2 mins walking distance!
Its all good. |

BSX racing started
on Saturday with Scott Beaumont riding well with some 1st
& 2nd's. The first jump immediately after the start
ramp was causing some trouble being too narrow, so it was
almost taken out completely, leaving a small floaty piece
of dirt in its place. This meant even more speed down the
straight, which made some close dashes to the first berm.

Sunday,
riders still saying the track was a bit narrow, but
racing got underway. Some big crashes took place over
the first jump. Kelvin Bately (Team Revell) crashed
with Steve Peat and ended up with a broken femur.
Then later on, Greg Minnaar came together with another
Royal Revell rider, who dislocated his hip. Greg knocked
himself out, but was OK. Jamie Staff and Scott Beaumont
were doing well. |
| Monday
morning there were some changes to the track. The first
jump which was a bit of a step up, was made into a smooth
tabletop. The racing was also changed from four riders
per race, to three. Still some good racing though, with
Jamie Staff dominating and going on to win the final
against Martin Murray. Lots of goodies were given away
to the audience during the day, even a PS2. But that
was nothing. Jamie staff just picked someone from the
crowd, and gave him his bike! (see the vids) Result
id say. whereas he walked away with a BMW Streetcarver,
and a fat cheque. Some videoclips and picture gallery
